This contest had ended Congrats Amy!
At one point Mr Kovalic made the silly declaration that he would give away sketches every time my twitter gained another 500 followers (aka a “milliwheaton”). Neither John or I are actually terribly concerned with numbers, I see this simply as;
- a clever ploy to distract from John’s own twitter so he can spend more time drawing and eating sandwiches
- a reason to give stuff away, because giving away stuff is fun
- a convenient excuse to use the term “milliwheaton” a lot
I try to be diligent about blocking bots, except any that actually follow through on their promise for free coffee, and have reached the magic number once again!
So here is what we are going to give away, his sketch “CINDY-LOU WHO, The Doctor Who’s No More Than Two” . We’ve done it by choosing a random follower but I like participation 
On Friday I’ll randomly choose a lucky tweeter to get the sketch! Dork on friends!
This summer has been full of Dork Storm shenanigans and scheming at conventions. I joined John Kovalicfor a charity Munchkin game At this year’s WI based fandom convention GeekKon. The game was kept small and chummy with winners that secured their spots through a silent auction and we were lucky to be accompanied by fellow convention guests-of-honor Monica Valentinelli. As the game went on I teamed up with a friend and hardly ran into a monster to fight, while Monica proved herself to be the most aggressive player to try and beat! Though he has drawn hundreds of cards and played the game a number of times John had never had the triumph of a Munchkin win. It was a great surprise when John ended up being the one to finish the game and claim his first Munchkin win!
I look forward to participating at such events in the future and meeting more of John’s fans.Do you participate in charity games? What do you feel makes them special and fun?

In the last week I had a dinosaur photoshoot and Dork Storm had a week full of gaming including some stuff with Steve Jackson. My role at Dork Storm is evolving, I’m going to be taking on more of a “Community Manager”/”Media Organizer” role, so this week I put in extra time into being up to date on social media tools. While people may use things like Facebook and Twitter everyday there are many options that are either unknown or under used. I have to make sure I keep up!
I also launched a new project with Anime Twin Cities/ Anime Detour! I’m helping to organize a photoshoot event for costume fans and some of my favorite photographers. This is going to be a great chance for strengthening the local fandom community that usually only gets together a few times a year Event Link

- Geek Girls Network interview of Her Universe, creators of apparel for girls in fandom. A great example of a company reaching out and succed in a niche through passion.
- Monica writes about organizing “Speak Out With Your Geek Out” . Great observations for anyone planning an online event
